"Take a shower,
Wash away the bad thoughts,
Cleanse your body,
Put on some relaxing music,
Get in to bed,
"Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work."
It’s good that you’re actually conscious of this and wanting to improve!! I know how hard it can be working towards deadlines, sometimes you just feel as though everything’s stacking against you. I’m sure you’re working hard already, but try to look at your process to see if there’s areas where you could be could be more efficient.
Sometimes, we just develop bad habits. One of mine used to be that I worked in a way which was too messy, so then I had to spend an unnecessary amount of time cleaning up my work. For me personally, working in a more structured way is much easier. When I first started with commissioned work, I had to learn how to really focus myself, because I’m a total procrastinator, but you have to get yourself into line. If you’re procrastinating or getting stuck because you feel uninspired, do everything you can to get back on track as quickly as possible and if you find that you’re putting in the hours and still not getting there on time, like I mentioned before, try to make changes to your process. There’s no magic answer, but it counts for everything that you’re trying so don’t be too hard on yourself, and I hope it works out for you soon!
I just want to get a cute apartment with a cute person and wear nothing but underwear and a big t-shirt or sweater and dance around, cook for each other, make our own movies and record each other while we’re playing, smiling, and laughing, and lay in bed together at night snuggled up warm together so close that we can hear each others pulse, ya feel me
